Evolution of a Hybrid Model for an Effective Perimeter Security Device

    Get PDF
Clustering and classification models, or hybrid models are the most widely used models that can handle the diverse nature of NIDS dataset. Dirichlet process clustering technique is a non-parametric Bayesian mixture model that considers the data distribution of the dataset for the formation of distinct clusters. The number of clusters is not known a priori and it differs across different datasets. Determining the number of clusters based on the distribution of data instances can increase the performance of the model. Naive Bayes model, a supervised learning classification technique, maintains a better computational efficiency, by reducing the training time. In this paper, we propose a hybrid model to exploit the positive aspect of proper clustering of data instances and the computational efficiency in building a NIDS. RIPPER algorithm is used to extract rules from the traffic description for updation of the rule database. Experiments were conducted in the KDD CUP’99 and SSENet-2011 datasets to study the performance of the proposed model. Also, a comparison of three hybrid methods with the proposed hybrid model was carried out. The results showed that the proposed hybrid model is superior in building a robust perimeter security device

Inclusion of poly-aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) molecules in a functionalized layered double hydroxide

    Get PDF
The internal surface of an Mg-Al layered double hydroxide has been functionalized by anchoring carboxy-methyl derivatized β-cyclodextrin cavities to the gallery walls. Neutral polyaromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) molecules have been included within the functionalized solid by driving the hydrophobic aromatic molecules from a polar solvent into the less polar interior of the anchored cyclodextrin cavities by a partitioning process. The optical (absorption and emission) properties of the PAH molecules included within the functionalized Mg-Al layered double hydroxide solid are similar to that of dilute solutions of the PAH in non-polar solvents. The unique feature of these hybrid materials is that they are thermally stable over a wide temperature range with their emission properties practically unaltered

Consistent Approximations for the Optimal Control of Constrained Switched Systems

Though switched dynamical systems have shown great utility in modeling a variety of physical phenomena, the construction of an optimal control of such systems has proven difficult since it demands some type of optimal mode scheduling. In this paper, we devise an algorithm for the computation of an optimal control of constrained nonlinear switched dynamical systems. The control parameter for such systems include a continuous-valued input and discrete-valued input, where the latter corresponds to the mode of the switched system that is active at a particular instance in time. Our approach, which we prove converges to local minimizers of the constrained optimal control problem, first relaxes the discrete-valued input, then performs traditional optimal control, and then projects the constructed relaxed discrete-valued input back to a pure discrete-valued input by employing an extension to the classical Chattering Lemma that we prove. We extend this algorithm by formulating a computationally implementable algorithm which works by discretizing the time interval over which the switched dynamical system is defined. Importantly, we prove that this implementable algorithm constructs a sequence of points by recursive application that converge to the local minimizers of the original constrained optimal control problem. Four simulation experiments are included to validate the theoretical developments

Particle Motion and Scalar Field Propagation in Myers-Perry Black Hole Spacetimes in All Dimensions

We study separability of the Hamilton-Jacobi and massive Klein-Gordon equations in the general Myers-Perry black hole background in all dimensions. Complete separation of both equations is carried out in cases when there are two sets of equal black hole rotation parameters, which significantly enlarges the rotational symmetry group. We explicitly construct a nontrivial irreducible Killing tensor associated with the enlarged symmetry group which permits separation. We also derive first-order equations of motion for particles in these backgrounds and examine some of their properties.Comment: 16 pages, LaTeX2

A Review on COVID-19 Outbreak Marketing and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

    Get PDF
The research paper focuses on the evidence-based on a preliminary study conducted on how the COVID-19 outbreak might affect the evolution of business obligations to discharge the activities which could uplift society and marketing. Ironically, it is true that the pandemic has provided an excellent opportunity for corporations to redirect their focus points and to comprehend the newer dimension of customers’ ethical decision-making process. This outbreak has a significant impact on marketing and magnifies the approach towards the strategic marketing efforts drawn by firms as opposed to content marketing. We conclude the study by outlining a number of research issues and areas that have the potential to be productive

Hydrocarbon chain conformation in an intercalated surfactant monolayer and bilayer

Cetyl trimethyl ammonium (CTA) ions have been confined within galleries of layered CdPS3 at two different grafting densities. Low grafting densities are obtained on direct intercalation of CTA ions into CdPS3 to give Cd0.93PS3(CTA)0.14. Intercalation occurs with a lattice expansion of 4.8 Ă… with the interlamellar surfactant ion lying flat forming a monolayer. Intercalation at higher grafting densities was effected by a two-step ion-exchange process to give Cd0.83PS3(CTA)0.34, with a lattice expansion of 26.5 Ă…. At higher grafting densities the interlamellar surfactant ions adopt a tilted bilayer structure. 13C NMR and orientation-dependent IR vibrational spectroscopy on single crystals have been used to probe the conformation and orientation of the methylene 'tail' of the intercalated surfactant in the two phases. In the monolayer phase, the confined methylene chain adopts an essentially all-trans conformation with most of the trans chain aligned parallel to the gallery walls. On lowering the temperature, molecular plane aligns parallel, so that the methylene chain lies flat, rigid and aligned to the confining surface. In the bilayer phase, most bonds in the methylene chain are in trans conformation. It is possible to identify specific conformational sequences containing a gauche bond, in the interior and termini of the intercalated methylene. These high energy conformers disappear on cooling leaving all fifteen methylene units of the intercalated cetyl trimethyl ammonium ion in trans conformational registry at 40 K

Properties of AGN coronae in the NuSTAR era

The focussing optics of NuSTAR have enabled high signal-to-noise spectra to be obtained from many X-ray bright Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) and Galactic Black Hole Binaries (BHB). Spectral modelling then allows robust characterization of the spectral index and upper energy cutoff of the coronal power-law continuum, after accounting for reflection and absorption effects. Spectral-timing studies, such as reverberation and broad iron line fitting, of these sources yield coronal sizes, often showing them to be small and in the range of 3 to 10 gravitational radii in size. Our results indicate that coronae are hot and radiatively compact, lying close to the boundary of the region in the compactness - temperature diagram which is forbidden due to runaway pair production. The coincidence suggests that pair production and annihilation are essential ingredients in the coronae of AGN and BHB and that they control the shape of the observed spectra.Comment: 11 pages, 8 figures, accepted for publication in MNRA

    Glimmers: Resolving the Privacy/Trust Quagmire

Many successful services rely on trustworthy contributions from users. To establish that trust, such services often require access to privacy-sensitive information from users, thus creating a conflict between privacy and trust. Although it is likely impractical to expect both absolute privacy and trustworthiness at the same time, we argue that the current state of things, where individual privacy is usually sacrificed at the altar of trustworthy services, can be improved with a pragmatic GlimmerGlimmer ofof TrustTrust, which allows services to validate user contributions in a trustworthy way without forfeiting user privacy. We describe how trustworthy hardware such as Intel's SGX can be used client-side -- in contrast to much recent work exploring SGX in cloud services -- to realize the Glimmer architecture, and demonstrate how this realization is able to resolve the tension between privacy and trust in a variety of cases
